9 Tips to Match or Beat Holiday Sales Numbers
Megan Crabtree
How well were your holiday sales numbers in 2021? Even if you think they were stellar, there’s always room for improvement! Here are nine ways you can match, or beat, your numbers this year:
1. Create Sales
Don’t wait for them to come to you; run reports and create your sales based on those insights. Have new products coming in? Have your associates blast out video text messages of them. Know who your top customers are? Drop them hints about products that compliment something they’ve already purchased. Who bought diamonds in the past five years? Offer them 100% trade-in value on any upgrade. Heck, you can even incentivize your customer service team to offer an upgrade consultation if you know they’re going to be booking a cleaning or repair service.

2. Get Personal
Do something thoughtful for your clients during the holiday season. Personalized gifts are a thoughtful way to show someone you’re thinking of them and a great way to spend your marketing dollars. There are many sites to buy from, but our favorite is personalcreations.com. They have a selection of affordable gifts as low as $15 such as Christmas ornaments where you can personalize the number of kids or family members in the household and have the family’s names added. Now they will remember you every year when they pull out their ornament. Another economical alternative is hand-written cards. Make sure they are delivered before December 15th!
3. Hire A Jewelry Cleaner
The best way to create a memorable customer experience is to offer a complimentary cleaning service. Offer anyone who comes into your store a quick steam on their jewelry. The chances of them buying from you can go up!
4. Host A Party or Exclusive Event
Think about the people who churn your business, customers included! And don’t forget about your team. When your team is happy, your customers are satisfied too. Take your team on an outing, host a girl’s night for shoppers who want to self-indulge or start a wish list, or host a private “Friends & Family” event.
5. Consider The Masses
The reality is that not every individual has thousands to spend when shopping in your store. Set up a price point showcase with merchandise under $500 retail at the checkout area. This will not only be great for self-purchasers but also for creating add-on sales.

6. Give Back
Find a local family or individual in need that you can contribute to in some manner. You could even start a social media contest so that people have the opportunity to tell you why they deserve to be selected. Get news stations involved to spread the word and drive brand awareness
7. Make Your Team Happy
The saying goes ‘happy wife, happy life,’ but the same is true for your sales team! A happy workforce tends to be much more productive than an unhappy one. And boosting morale over the busy holiday season doesn’t have to be difficult or elaborate. A little show of appreciation can go a long way. Set a catered lunch schedule during the last two weeks of December. Think of any customers who own local restaurants If they shop with you for the holidays, be sure to reciprocate by ordering one of your lunches from their business. This is also a good opportunity for vendors to sponsor a lunch if they would like to acknowledge your team for the work, they did all year.
8. Encourage Some Friendly Competition
Who doesn’t love a little competition!? Create a contest for addon sales. This is a good way to brush up on some sales 101 training by giving your team some pointers on how to close an add-on by suggesting matching pieces and continuing to show items that may interest the client until they indicate they are done shopping. Have them ask clients for referrals of individuals who may also want to purchase jewelry for the holidays. Incentivize the contests with something fun such as a gift card to a local restaurant or movie theater. Keep a chart in the breakroom so everyone can see where they are in the standings.
9. Deck The Halls
Hire a company to professionally decorate your store for the holidays. Make the store atmosphere feel festive and fun. Take it one step further and host an ugly sweater day with your team. Not only is an ugly sweater a great ice breaker, but it will also make customers feel at home and create a relaxed, no-pressure, vibe that will help make shopping easier.
