Who can forget the Barbiecore frenzy of the summer of 2023? The movie Barbie triggered a wave of everything “girly”—pink, feminine, powerful, and fun!

THE GIRL OBSESSION IS BACK IN 2024, WITH ADDED VERVE, AND A TWIST!

The new year’s fashion runways from Paris to Milan, London and New York are embracing the feminine—florals, pastels, flowing sheer silhouettes, ruffles, and pinks. Pantone’s color of the year is Peach Fuzz—“capturing our desire to nurture ourselves and others.” But this trend is not your mother’s femininity.

The coupling of feminine energy and power is growing—and unapologetic. The new twists–it can be sassy, with a sense of fun, even irony. Taylor Swift projects the “end of the alphabet” generations’—Y, Z, and now Alpha—irreverent playfulness by wearing her cat as a fur collar on her Person of the Year Time Magazine cover. As women continue to step into their own in society, they can choose to embrace traditional roles, such as Tik Tok’s “trad wives,” but with a twist, metamorphosing it into that of a social media influencer. Growing “girl power” embraces the feminine, but as a conscious, playful choice.

SOME “GIRL POWER” TRENDS TO LOOK FOR IN 2024:

Who can forget the Barbiecore frenzy of the summer of 2023? The movie Barbie triggered a wave of everything “girly”—pink, feminine, powerful, and fun!

THE GIRL OBSESSION IS BACK IN 2024, WITH ADDED VERVE, AND A TWIST!

Pearls! Perhaps the most feminine of all gems, this soft, lustrous, gem is truly trending organic—and renewable! Multistrand necklaces have been preferred from Queen Elizabeth I to Queen Elizabeth II, First Ladies including Jacqueline Kennedy and Hollywood icons–think Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. Look for fresh varieties, including Tahitian and South Sea, interesting baroque, natural Keshi and beautiful pink/peach conch. “And Ken too!” As men—including celebrities, actors, and musicians– are increasing expanding the bounds of their traditional roles, they are embracing wearing strands of pearls as well. Actually, traditional royalty from Henry VIII to Indian Maharajas frequently wore strands of this precious gem.

Pinks, peaches and pastels. Think bold, think pink! The quintessential feminine shade has now morphed from signaling demure traditionality to an unabashed power choice!

Feminine themes—always popular hearts and florals, and monograms such as initial necklaces. A trending twist–eclectic multistrand layering creating a bold, personalized statement. The more, the better!

Think different! Taylor Swift wore to the Grammys a Lorraine Schwartz watch choker necklace—set at midnight—the title of one of her albums. Swift chooses her jewelry intentionally, sharing friendship bracelets with her fans, or wearing her boyfriend Chief player Travis Kelce’s “87” number in a Stephanie Gottleib necklace at the Super Bowl. Jewelry is a power choice. Younger generations especially are embracing that personal power, and want jewelry that’s not “stuffy,” that speaks to them.

Edgy. Angular. Asymmetric. Girl power can take this form, playing against the feminine type of soft, rounded curves. Angular, asymmetric rings and earrings project a new “out of the box” feminine edge. Diamond nose studs and nose rings project a subtle power statement .

“Diamond are a girl’s best friend.” A new twist? Lab created diamonds offer the option of wearing bold diamonds with a fun fashion flair. Look for large, colored diamond rings and pendant necklaces in shades of pink, blue and yellow, and diamonds in the shapes of monogramed initials or animals such as turtles or horses!

Bring back the fun! Jewelry doesn’t have to be so serious. Girl power projects playfulness. Anything goes. It’s all about breaking boundaries. We can’t wait to watch how this growing wave of “girl obsession,” with its twist and turns, adds a fresh joyfulness to the timeless charm of jewelry.
