Chris Ploof Launches Modern Electrum Collection, A New Precious Metal Alternative to Gold

Chris Ploof, owner and designer of Chris Ploof Designs, has announced the launch of his all new Modern Electrum collection, including styles with Diamonds de Canada’s naturally fluorescent diamonds. Modern Electrum™️ is a newly created and patented Legor alloy that recreates an ancient naturally occurring alloy known in Greek and Roman times as electrum. The non-tarnishing metal offers an affordable and distinctive new precious metal option in the current bull market for gold. New styles include rings, earrings, bracelets, and pendants, with and without diamonds, ranging in retail price from $935 to $2,195. The collection will officially debut during Las Vegas Market Week at the CBG Show May 26-27 and the JCK Show May 20 – June 1, 2026.

“I have always been a metal lover, but the story of Modern Electrum™️, with its incredible properties and its unique provenance, really excites me,” says Ploof. “Electrum is the most ancient of alloys and was beloved by ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Turks. It was used in coinage until the first century A.D. Legor’s new alloy recreates the ancient alloy with a proprietary blend of silver, gold, and platinum metals like palladium. It does not tarnish, corrode, or rust. It has a beautiful warmth to it and an energy that is palpable. It really amplifies the natural fluorescence of the Diamonds de Canada stones. I am equally passionate about the metal and the stones, and I have already seen firsthand the consumer’s positive response to it. This new collection offers the right price at the right time, without sacrificing preciousness, beauty, or value.”

In the ancient world, electrum was highly prized as a naturally occurring alloy blend of gold and silver, plus unknown elements. Egyptians used it atop their pyramids and obelisks. Electrum coins were traded until the Romans banned them in the 1st century AD, preferring pure gold and pure silver. Electrum coins can still be found in museums today. The scientists and metallurgists at Legor, challenged by Diamonds de Canada to recreate the historical alloy, discovered that the previously unknown element was, in fact, platinum or platinum group metals. Their proprietary Modern Electrum alloy now offers the jewelry industry a new precious metal to compete with the recording-breaking gold prices.

“Natural diamonds with a naturally occurring ancient alloy combine to create a meaningful story for the modern consumer, offering attractive new price points and a cachet as brilliant as the diamonds themselves,” says Benjamin King, CEO of Diamonds de Canada. “The diamonds from Gahcho Kué mine in Canada naturally fluoresce. Locals believe the phenomenon comes from the energy of the Northern Lights which are directly above the mine. This adds even more value to the new Modern Electrum collection. With Chris Ploof’s mastery of metallurgy, the new designs offer pure luxury at unbeatable prices.”

Ploof’s new Modern Electrum collection will debut in Las Vegas, first at the CBG Show May 26 & 27 at Caesars Palace in the “Curated Designer Project,” and then again, in the Endless Designs booth #10055 at the JCK Las Vegas Show May 29 – June 1, 2026.
